Mockingbird Elementary Overview

Mockingbird Elementary is a great school for students who are looking for a challenging and supportive learning environment. The school has strong academic programs and a variety of extracurricular activities. The teachers are dedicated to helping students succeed, and the parent community is very involved in the school. In addition, Mockingbird offers a number of special programs including dual language (Spanish), deaf education, and gifted and talented, and it features a garden onsite which students take care of.

Mockingbird Elementary originally opened as Stonewall Jackson Elementary on September 13, 1939. On July 1, 2018 the name was officially changed to Mockingbird Elementary School. 

Dress code

Dallas ISD requires that all students wear standardized dress. (See details and examples.) Note that clear Backpacks must be used by all students. Normal lunchboxes are okay.

School day start and end times

For the 2023 - 2024 school year, the first day of school is August 14, 2023. 

Please note new school hours for 2023-2024. School will begin at 8:00 am. Students arriving after 8:00 am will be considered tardy and need to pick up a tardy slip from the front office before going to their classroom. After-school pick up is on the white top at 3:20 pm. Please pick up your children in a timely manner as many teachers need to return to their classrooms for clean-up or tutoring.

Tours

Guided group tours take place the first Wednesday of each month at 9:30am beginning in September, and continue through May (note, there are no summer tours). No appointment is necessary, but please register at the front desk upon arrival.
