Extracurricular activities
Mockingbird Elementary offers multiple enrichment programs and an aftercare program run by the YMCA.
Aftercare
The YMCA runs after-school programming on campus at Mockingbird throughout the school year with coverage from dismissal until 6:30pm. Parents can register (or change registration) at any time through the YMCA’s after-school website.
Mockingbird clubs
Mockingbird Elementary also features clubs with the goal of allowing all students to participate in an extracurricular activity if they want to. These include enrichment clubs, competition clubs, and clubs whose members are nominated. More details are at the Mockingbird club website.
Karate
Chamberlain Studios of Self Defense provides karate on campus after school one day per week. Chamberlain is a well-respected provider of Kenpo Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Aikido, and Judo instruction, as well as self-defense workshops and fitness classes. Their system features modern techniques combined with traditional training methods in a family-oriented training environment. Chess
The Knight School Dallas runs a chess team and “chess party” at Mockingbird. Their educational philosophy is all around making learning to play chess fun, and they’ve had great success with their approach, winning multiple state championships.
